Dear Neighbors,

My name is Greg Cerino, a lifelong resident of Topsfield and a graduate of Masconomet High School. I am proud to have raised my two children, Andrea and Dan, here in town—both of whom also graduated from Masconomet.

After four years in the Air Force and seven years as a commercial carpenter, I have spent the past 39 years in construction management. I have also had the privilege of serving our community for five terms on the Topsfield Planning Board.

I am now running for the Select Board to continue serving the town that has given so much to me and my family. Like many of you, I care deeply about our town — its character, its sense of community, and the careful balance that has long made it a special place to live. I am running because I believe that preserving what we value most requires thoughtful leadership, independent judgment, and a renewed commitment to accountability.

In recent years, many residents have expressed concern about the direction of town governance. We have seen rising costs, increasingly frequent override requests, and significant turnover of department heads at Town Hall resulting in a loss of valuable institutional knowledge and an impact on services. These trends raise important questions about how decisions are made, how priorities are set, and how effectively we are planning for the future.

If elected, I will focus on three core priorities:

Fiscal Responsibility
Our town must live within its means while continuing to provide high-quality services. This requires careful budgeting, long-term planning, and a willingness to ask hard questions before new spending is approved.

Accountability and Oversight
Strong local government depends on healthy checks and balances. The Select Board plays a critical role in providing oversight and ensuring that decisions are transparent, well-reasoned, and in the best interest of residents.

Preserving Our Town’s Character
Growth and change should be approached thoughtfully, with respect for the rural character and community values that define our town. Decisions today should reflect a long-term vision that protects what makes this place unique.

I am not running as part of a slate, and I am not running to simply agree with the status quo. I am running to bring an independent perspective, to listen carefully to residents, and to make decisions grounded in fairness, facts, and the long-term interests of our community.

Public service is about trust. It is about asking tough questions, working collaboratively when possible, thinking creatively about better ways forward, and always putting the community first.

I would be honored to earn your support and your vote.

Sincerely,

Greg Cerino
